Model Trailways Concord Stagecoach i:12 Scale Wood and Metal Kit

The Abbott Downing Company of Agree, New Hampshire built its beginning stagecoach in 1827. These coaches were used for passenger and post service between St. Louis and San Francisco. Abbott produced coaches for both Wells Fargo and Butterfield Overland Phase companies.

Weighing over two tons, the coaches were solidly congenital. The bodies rested on leather thorough braces - not for the passengers' condolement, but to preclude injury to the horses. The wheels were made of seasoned white oak to withstand the heat and the cold. Leather "boots" front and dorsum held mail sacks and luggage.

The interior was merely over four' wide and iv-1/two' high. Three benches provided seating for nine passengers. They traveled solar day and night, suffering from choking dust and stifling estrus in the summer, intense cold in the winter, and the ever-present threat of robbers and hostile Indians. After completing the two,812-mile journeying, 1 newspaper correspondent wrote, "Had I not simply come up out over the route, I would be perfectly willing to go back, just I now know what hell is like. I've but had 24 days of it."

An human activity of congress discontinued stagecoach postal service service on June xxx, 1861. The stagecoach era came to an end with the completion of the transcontinental railroad in 1869.

Mr

I merely happened to detect no 1 has posted a review of this kit. I built this several years back when it was outset offered. I have built many, many airplane, ship, artillery, etc. models over the last 65 plus years, and perhaps building the this stagecoach is among my favorite projects. Information technology is a smashing kit at any toll. If you take your time and carefully follow and understand the directions the end production is amazing. I but deviated from the plans by leaving off the authentic, but to me gaudy, lower carriage golden decal scrollwork. The only downside is that, although the finished coach is extremely lightweight, it is manifestly too heavy for the rear Britannia wheel axles. Over fourth dimension, gravity slowly spreads the wheels autonomously at the wheel hubs. As well many times staightening them will eventually break the axle. Brittania is fairly soft and then maybe I just got a especially soft rear beam. The front axle doesn't exhibit this frailty.

Mr.

When I opened the Stage passenger vehicle kit the first thing I noticed was the laser cutting pieces. My first reaction was I didn't like the char. I later found the sanding off of the char was more than than worth the effort to go the precise size leading to a perfect fit of components. Non a milk shake the box kit by any means, the resulting finished jitney will require several weeks of dedicated attempt. Later all that's why I build models. The finished model is a worthy add-on to any collection. Thanks Trailways for the many enjoyable days spent bringing this finished model into my collection. I've spent many hours viewing pictures of full size agree coaches and the harder I look , the closer to total scale details I find in this kit. To the gentleman who built the prototype I tip my chapeau. What a labor of love he must have. I can't believe the number of hours he must have spent designing, measuring, cut, and assembling that model. I say , WOW.

I did finish the double-decker. Information technology took most 9 months working a couple hours each mean solar day. Not a kit for a beginner. Good plans and insturctions. One weak office are the axles. I broke one but was able to install a aluminum tube over axle stub and drill out that hub. Also the zipper of coach body to clevises could exist ameliorate explained. I really built a support for coach body to concord it off frame while I installed the pins. Overall information technology was a fun kit just builder must exist patient.
